As many of you have noticed, there is a new feature here on The Watchman and ALL Ning networks, for that matter...The Gift Feature. The developers of the Ning Network have added this feature and it allows members to give gifts to each other. Similar to the chat feature and all other features on the Ning network, I did not create this feature and have limited ability to manipulate it. However, I have made an attempt to remove gifts that are offensive (though the developers may add gifts in the future that I will have to edit out once I am made aware of their presence here on the website). I ask that you let me know if you see a gift that should be removed and that you are patient and use your discretion when gifting members. As you know, this is a Christian website and some things may be lawful, but not expedient. Thank you for your kind attention to this matter and enjoy the new feature. Guidelines for The Watchman Social Network
Members of The Watchman Social Network will:1. Exercise the Golden Rule at all times -- The most valuable rules for social and family intercourse are to be found in the Bible. There is not only the best and purest standard of morality but the most valuable code of politeness. Our Saviour's Sermon on the Mount contains instruction of priceless worth to old and young. It should be often read in the family circle and its precious teachings exemplified in the daily life. The golden rule, "Whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them," as well as the apostolic injunction, "In honour preferring one another."
a. Manifesting politeness and a spirit of benevolence even in little things.
b. Constantly seeking to make all around them happy, forgetting self in their kind attentions to others. This is the fruit which grows upon the Christian tree.
c. Exercising the principle of true courtesy, and its truest illustration is seen in the life and character of Jesus. Being rough, overbearing, unkind, and uncourteous in words and deportment do not reflect His character and will not be acceptable here.
d. Brightening the path for stumbling and weary feet.
Network Application(s): If you like to decide what you will or will not read or participate in, allow others to do so too. If you don't like feeling inadequate or unloved, don't cause others to feel that way either. If you like to be heard, allow others to be heard also. If you're chatting with someone online, be sure to use your manners and remember the Golden Rule.
2. Exercise the Love of Jesus as found in 1 Corinthians 13 -- Love suffereth long, and is kind; Love envieth not; Love vaunteth not itself, Is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, Seeketh not its own, Is not provoked, Taketh not account of evil; Rejoiceth not in unrighteousness, But rejoiceth with the truth; Beareth all things, believeth all things, Hopeth all things, endureth all things. Love never faileth."
Network Application(s): If you're trying to get a point across and others aren't catching on as quickly as you would like, be patient. Let the Holy Spirit work. Don't continue pressing because there is a chance you could drive that person away from the arms of Christ. Love that person. God is patient with us. Be self-less like Our Creator is. Be willing to go that extra mile with words of encouragement and compassion.
3. Encourage, promote and contribute to an atmosphere of cheerfulness, courtesy, and love -- This is a site where love dwells and where it finds expression in words and in acts. This is a place where angels delight to dwell. We should all let the sunshine of love, cheer, and happy content enter our own hearts, and let its sweet influence pervade the entire site. Let us manifest a kindly, forbearing spirit, and encourage the same in each other, cultivating all those graces that will brighten the lives of our brothers and sisters in Christ. The atmosphere thus created will be to each member what air and sunshine are to the vegetable world, promoting health and vigor of mind and body.
Gentle manners, cheerful conversation, and loving acts will bind our hearts to each other by the silken cords of affection and will do more to make this site attractive than the rarest ornaments that can be bought for gold.
Network Application(s): Post words of encouragement to each other's pages. Pray for one another, reply to messages sent. If you know of a camp meeting, seminar, sermon, current event or other item of interest that might encourage or otherwise help Members of this site, be sure and add that here.
4. Blend our Varied Temperaments --It is in the order of God that persons of varied temperament should associate together. Each member of this network should sacredly regard the feelings and respect the rights of the others. By this means mutual consideration and forbearance will be cultivated, prejudices will be softened, and rough points of character smoothed. Harmony may be secured, and the blending of the varied temperaments may be a benefit to each.
Network Application(s): We are going to respect the differences and varied temperaments of others. The Holy Spirit moves upon each heart and that moving of the Holy Spirit is expressed in many different ways. We each are blessed with talents that are absolutely varied. Our individual pages here can be an expression of who we are, our temperament. How we respond to posts, blogs, chats, emails, etc. will be varied. We all are here representing the Body of Christ. We can't all be an eye nor an ear. Let's strive to work together in an orderly and harmonious fashion.
5. Exercise Thoughtfulness -- Many Are Longing for Thoughtfulness.--Many long intensely for friendly sympathy. . . . We should be self-forgetful, ever looking out for opportunities, even in little things, to show gratitude for the favors we have received of others, and watching for opportunities to cheer others and lighten and relieve their sorrows and burdens by acts of tender kindness and little deeds of love. These thoughtful courtesies that, commencing in our families, extend outside the family circle help make up the sum of life's happiness; and the neglect of these little things makes up the sum of life's bitterness and sorrow.
Network Application(s): Let's practice thoughtfulness here. Check in with a note or email to members that you haven't seen on-line in a while, but don't flood their pages and inboxes with yourself and notes from you. Remember the golden rule. Wait for a response. Allow other members to express themselves also. Be sure to check your motive for doing anything at all.
6. Remember that it is Through Social Relations that Contact Is Made With the World.--It is through the social relations that Christianity comes in contact with the world. Every man or woman who has tasted of the love of Christ and has received into the heart the divine illumination is required of God to shed light on the dark pathway of those who are unacquainted with the better way.
We can manifest a thousand little attentions in friendly words and pleasant looks, which will be reflected upon us again. Thoughtless Christians manifest by their neglect of others that they are not in union with Christ. It is impossible to be in union with Christ and yet be unkind to others and forgetful of their rights.
We should all become witnesses for Jesus. Social power, sanctified by the grace of Christ, must be improved in winning souls to the Saviour. Let the world see that we are not selfishly absorbed in our own interests, but that we desire others to share our blessings and privileges. Let them see that our religion does not make us unsympathetic or exacting. Let all who profess to have found Christ minister as He did for the benefit of men. We should never give to the world the false impression that Christians are a gloomy, unhappy people.
If we are courteous and gentle at home, we shall carry the savor of a pleasant disposition when away from home. If we manifest forbearance, patience, meekness, and fortitude in the home, we shall be able to be a light to the world.
Network Application(s): This is an open public site. People from all over the world have been invited, from many different walks and relationships with the Lord. There are very mature Christians here, but there are also Christians who have never heard the message. Let's stay mindful of that. We all know that these are the last days and wouldn't it be nice if we could spend eternity with Jesus Christ and the citizens of Heaven throughout eternity? May this site be instrumental in making sure that that happens, by God's Grace.
7. Be blessed and be a blessing to others.
These are the terms of use that every member using interactive areas of this site agrees to adhere to. This would include chat rooms, discussion boards and other interactive areas including blogs and member pages.
A word about The Watchman Chat Room and other Public Forums... Please remember that The Watchman is a PUBLIC site. When in the chat room or any other publicly viewable place on this site, other members can not see your facial expressions or hear the tone of your voice, but they can see what you type. Let us all be mindful of what we’re typing because the words we enter are visible for all to see including God and the angels. Let’s remember to maintain a Christ-like atmosphere here and everywhere else, for that matter. P. S. Feeling Overwhelmed?
YES, there is, and will continue to be, a LOT of information on this site. There are more than 300 members here who have the ability to make postings. So, even though you may be just joining, or unable to sign into The Watchman daily, prophecy is still being fulfilled every day. New material is daily being posted by various members, so the site is steadily growing. However, you are NOT obligated to look at every post. It would be a huge task.
Suggestion: Get your Bible's out. Seek ye out of the book of the LORD, and read (Isaiah 34:6a). Do some praying. Please use your discretion in navigating this site. Pick the information that you are interested in and ignore the information that you are not interested in. You won't be able to agree with everything here and you won't be able to debunk everything here either, mainly because there is just too much information. But hopefully, by doing your part to help bring us together on one accord you can pick something that you can contribute to, by God's grace, that will help bring us to a right understanding of the truth in that particular area.
I do what I can to monitor and make sure that things do not totally get out of hand, but I expect members to use their own judgment in what they choose to believe or disbelieve according to the word of God. God wants us to depend upon him, and not upon man. He desires us to have a new heart; he would give us revealings of light from the throne of God. We should wrestle with every difficulty, but when some controverted point is presented, are you to go to man to find out his opinion, and then shape your conclusions from his?--No, go to God. Tell him what you want; take your Bible and search as for hidden treasures. {Review and Herald, February 18, 1890 par. 22} The Holy Spirit is wanting in our work. Nothing frightens me more than to see the spirit of variance manifested by our brethren. We are on dangerous ground when we cannot meet together like Christians, and courteously examine controverted points. I feel like fleeing from the place lest I receive the mold of those who cannot candidly investigate the doctrines of the Bible.
Those who cannot impartially examine the evidences of a position that differs from theirs, are not fit to teach in any department of God's cause. What we need is the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Without this, we are no more fitted to go forth to the world than were the disciples after the crucifixion of their Lord. Jesus knew their destitution, and told them to tarry in Jerusalem until they should be endowed with power from on high. Every teacher must be a learner, that his eyes may be anointed to see the evidences of the advancing truth of God. The beams of the Sun of Righteousness must shine into his own heart if he would impart light to others. {1 Selected Messages, pg 411}
